As your City Councillor, Joe has focused on getting important infrastructure built throughout Ward 2. As an example, immediately after being elected in 2013, Joe secured funding for an “in and out” ramp on 14th Street off of Stoney Trail to serve the residents of Evanston. Similarly, the Sarcee/Stoney Trail Interchange Project was prioritized because of the concerns Joe heard from residents about heavy truck traffic on Shaganappi Trail and Symons Valley Road. This new interchange will make it easier, safer and more efficient for heavy trucks to use Sarcee Trail and 112 Ave and will help to alleviate heavy truck traffic from other routes. Joe also worked collaboratively with developers to complete of the twinning of Sarcee Trail to 144th, which was completed ahead of schedule and is now serving the growing communities in Ward 2.
Public Transit has also been a focus for Joe and his efforts have led to the implementation of new transit routes for many new communities in Ward 2, including the recently added Route 82 serving Nolan Hill, Sage Hill, Sherwood and Kincora. He has also been an advocate for establishing a transit hub next to the Sage Hill Wal-Mart to better connect transit services and to better serve our growing community needs.
Going forward Joe’s vision is to ensure that all communities in Ward 2 have the best infrastructure and transportation options possible because he knows that this makes Ward 2 an attractive area in Calgary to live, work and raise a family. Some examples of Joe’s priority projects include:
