Primarily that of funding.
Saskatoon competes globally and we need to acknowledge this when other cities of comparable size aggressively go after tourism markets by increasing funding to their tourism bureaus. We need to look at increasing the membership, and the amount of dollars allocated to attracting the same market.
Everyone needs to recognize that tourism is a major economic generator in the city and explore ways to fund Tourism Saskatoon through "new" revenue from outside the city. While an additional $50,000 dollars was allocated to Tourism, Saskatoon has still not kept pace with other cities. Our National and International reputation must be that of a great place to come for conventions and sporting events without being overshadowed by other sought after negative news stories.
The city must be conveniently accessible by air transportation for those planning on using our convention facilities. Saskatoon is growing and it does require a concerted effort of all stakeholders to work together to attract more sports and conventions so that people can experience our hospitality and amenities.
